Wine regions within a day of LA

All four work as a day trip that starts and ends at your door.

    Temecula Valley

About 85 miles from Downtown by the 91 and the I-15 south, roughly 90 minutes, or about an hour from Irvine. Most tasting rooms sit along Rancho California Road and De Portola Road, a few minutes apart, and Old Town Temecula works for lunch.

    Santa Ynez Valley

About 130 miles up the 101 to Buellton, then into Solvang, Los Olivos, Santa Ynez and the Foxen Canyon wineries. Los Olivos has many tasting rooms within a few blocks, so the group can walk while the car waits.

    Malibu

The closest wine country to the city, with tasting rooms in the Santa Monica Mountains and along PCH, 30 to 60 minutes from most of LA. It fits a half day, with a beach stop on the way home.

    Santa Barbara and Ojai

Santa Barbara’s Funk Zone has tasting rooms a short walk from the beach, about 95 miles from Downtown. Ojai, 80 miles away by the 101 and Highway 33, has a few tasting rooms in its small downtown.

How a wine tour day runs

    1. 1

      Reserve the tastings

Many wineries take groups by reservation only, especially on Saturdays, and some ask chauffeured groups to book ahead. Reserve two to four tastings first, then book the car around those times.

    2. 2

      Choose the hours

Count the drive both ways, about an hour per winery and time for lunch. Temecula with three wineries is usually eight hours from LA; the Santa Ynez Valley needs ten.

    3. 3

      Taste, ride, repeat

The chauffeur arrives 15 minutes early, drives to each winery on your list and waits outside while you taste. Bottled water is in the car between stops.

    4. 4

      Home with the bottles

Purchases ride home in the cargo area or the cabin. On hot afternoons, keep cases out of direct sun and bring an insulated bag if you plan to buy a lot.

    Which car for which group

7 to 12 people: Sprinter van

One van keeps a bachelorette party or a birthday group together all day. It is booked by the hour with a 3-hour minimum, and champagne can be arranged on request for guests 21 and older.

4 to 6 people: Business SUV

Seats for six and the cargo room to bring cases home. A good fit for two couples or a small family celebration.

    Up to 6: First Class

A Cadillac Escalade, Mercedes S-Class or similar, for an anniversary or a client outing where the ride is part of the day.

1 to 3 people: Business Class

A Mercedes E-Class or similar for a couple’s day in Malibu or Ojai, with trunk space for a few bottles.

    Before your tasting day

    • The booking covers the car and chauffeur; tasting fees, food and bottles are paid at each winery.
    • Saturday mornings on the 91 through Corona can add 30 minutes, so set the first Temecula tasting for 11 AM or later.
    • The 101 north is slow on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings through Ventura; leave LA by 8 AM for the Santa Ynez Valley.
    • Temecula is hot from June to September. Book morning tastings and keep bottles out of the sun.
    • Picking up friends at several LA or OC addresses? Add them as stops on the hourly booking.
    • Paso Robles is about 200 miles away, too far for a comfortable day trip; book it one way to a weekend hotel instead.
    • Prefer to take your own car? The designated driver service puts a chauffeur behind your wheel.

    Wine tours questions

Still unsure? Message us on WhatsApp or call (213) 376-1699.

How long does a Temecula wine tour from LA take?

Plan on about eight hours from Los Angeles: roughly 90 minutes each way, plus three tastings and lunch. From Irvine or Newport Beach the drive is closer to an hour, so six hours can cover two or three wineries. On Saturday mornings the 91 through Corona is slow, so leave earlier than you think.

Are winery tastings or reservations included in the price?

No. The price covers the car, the chauffeur and the hours you book; tasting fees, food and bottles are paid at each winery. Reserve tastings directly with the wineries before the day, since many require it for groups on weekends. Then set your pickup time and hours around those reservations.

Can we do the Santa Ynez Valley as a day trip from Los Angeles?

Yes, with a 10-hour booking. The drive up the 101 to Solvang takes about two hours and twenty minutes each way, which leaves around five hours for Los Olivos, Santa Ynez and the Foxen Canyon wineries. Leaving LA by 8 AM avoids most of the northbound weekend traffic through Ventura.

Which wine region works for a half-day tour?

Malibu. Its tasting rooms are 30 to 60 minutes from most of the Westside and the Valley, so a 6-hour booking covers two or three stops and a drive along PCH. Ojai also works for a shorter day, about 90 minutes each way from Downtown.

Can we have champagne in the car on a wine tour?

Yes, for guests 21 and older: champagne can be arranged on request when you book. Bottles you buy at the wineries ride home in the cargo area or the cabin. Bottled water is always in the car, which helps on a long tasting day.

Can a wine tour start from our hotel in Temecula?

No. Every ride has to start in Los Angeles or Orange County, so a Temecula wine tour begins at your LA or OC address and the chauffeur brings you back there the same day. If you are staying in Temecula for the weekend, you can book a one-way ride out from LA or OC and arrange local transport there.

What if our wine tour group is bigger than 12?

One Sprinter van seats up to 12, so larger groups book two vehicles, for example a van and a Business SUV, as separate hourly bookings with the same pickup time. Each vehicle has its own chauffeur, and both follow the same winery list. Give the wineries your full head count when you reserve.

Can the chauffeur collect friends from different addresses before the tour?

Yes. Start the hourly booking at the first address in Los Angeles or Orange County and add the other homes as stops, in a sensible order. The hours start at the first pickup, so allow 15 to 20 minutes for each extra address. Everyone then rides out to wine country together.
